Virat Kohli also leaving RCB Captaincy after the 2021 Indian Premier League. This decision of Virat was very shocking and heart-breaking for all the fans. Many of the fans could not imagine Royal Challengers Bangalore without his captaincy.
A few days after stepping down as the captain of Team India’s T20I team, Royal Challengers Bangalore announced on Sunday (September 19) that that Virat Kohli had decided to step down from his role as captain after the completion of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Kohli, one of the most decorated players of the franchise, will continue to be part of the RCB squad in next season.
What Virat exactly said in his statement
“It has been a great and an inspiring journey, captaining a talented bunch of players in the RCB squad. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the RCB management, coaches, support staff, players, and the entire RCB family, who have been instrumental in the growth of the franchise over the years,” Kohli said in a statement issued by RCB.
“It wasn’t an easy decision but one that has been well thought of and in the best interest of this wonderful franchise. The RCB family remains close to my heart as we continue to strive to achieve excellence. As I have mentioned previously in many occasions, I will only play for RCB until my retirement from the game of cricket,” he added.
Virat Kohli As Royal Challengers Bangalore Captain
Virat Kohli joined RCB in 2008 and has been playing for them all the years. He played over 130 matches as Captain of RCB after being announced as Captain for them. Royal Challengers have won 60 matches and lost 66 during his captaincy to date. Bangalore fans have seen ups and downs under him as the highest score of 264 against Pune Warriors India and the lowest score of 49 against Kolkata Knight Riders.
In 2016 RCB played the final but fell short. It was the best performance under him. There were so many good things but Bangalore never had a chance to lift the cup.
